History
Early Life
Mei was raised strictly by her father, Raiden Ryoma. She learnt to be refined, and studied Kendo. She also learnt the special family technique, (insert the name).
For a while, Mei was close with her father, and she enjoyed being a family. She would sometimes see him talk to suspicious business partners. One day, she was kidnapped by a mysterious organisation.
After this, her life changed. Her father was often absent, and Mei began to feel lonely and worked hard to gain his approval. Eventually, she was enrolled in Senba Academy, where she would become known as the Thunder Princess.
Eruption
Suddenly, Mei's father was accused of economic crimes and arrested. Mei's reputation plummeted, and her loneliness and despair started to eat at her. She was susceptible to the Honkai, and she became a Herrscher, causing a massive Honkai eruption, killing her classmates and causing great death and destruction.
In a daze and consumed by guilt and angst, she started wander the school grounds, where she ran into Kiana Kaslana. Confused by the presence of another non-corrupted human being, Kiana tried to interrogate her. However, Mei was too occupied with her situation to give any meaningful answers, and gave Kiana a difficult time with her lack of survival drive.
Kiana recognised Mei as a well known figure within the school, and started to tease her for being a rich girl.
When Mei finally lashed out at [Kiana Kaslana (B2-MU-1)|Kiana]], she started gathering zombies and proclaiming she would take over the world and destroy everything. [Kiana Kaslana (B2-MU-1)|Kiana]] used her ability to absorb Honkai energy to weaken the Herrscher. During their battle, [Kiana Kaslana (B2-MU-1)|Kiana]] managed to form a mental connection with Mei, and felt some of her angst and troubles, allowing [Kiana Kaslana (B2-MU-1)|Kiana]] to put together the pieces of why she was lashing out. This caused the Herrscher to freak out and flee the battle.
[Kiana Kaslana (B2-MU-1)|Kiana]] chased her to the rooftop of a school building. As they fought, Kiana tried to appeal to the real Mei, and tried to talk her out of giving up on life. When Mei briefly regained control of herself, she attempted to jump off the rooftop to end her life and the Herrscher with her. However, the Herrscher did not let her, and took back control to prevent it.
As she eventually overcame the Herrscher again, Kiana agreed to let Mei come along with her to escape the eruption.
Palefox
When looking for a way out, they decided to take a shortcut through an academy building housing secret labs. They passed through an area managed by ME Corp, the company of Mei's father. Kiana and Mei agreed they would find their dads together.
Before they left the building, they found a dead girl being guarded by a strange fox creature exuding great Honkai energy, and decided to flee. When they noticed the fox creature was following them, they were forced to confront it near the shrines.
The fox creature was named Palefox by Mei, due to her pale appearance. They learned the fox had become close with the dead girl, and was enraged by her passing. The Honkai had subsequently possessed her, and abused her rage.
Kiana and Mei managed to calm her down, and Palefox decided to go guard the girl's body until she herself died. They concluded the most likely cause of death for the dead girl had been suicide, as she had been dead prior to the eruption.
Meeting Yae
Shortly after exiting the academy grounds, Kiana and Mei came across a construction site. There the path was blocked by a large red fox. Higoku. The fox demanded to be left alone, and demanded they leave. However, this path was the only available path, so Mei asked to let them pass. This enraged Higoku, who wanted to remain in peace with her princess. Confrontation ensued. When the tide seemed to be in Kiana and Mei's favour, Higoku requested aid from her princess, Yae Sakura. Kiana and Mei realised Yae Sakura was not in this situation out of her own will, and tried to save her. Eventually, Kiana and Mei won the battle, but Yae Sakura chose to remain with Higoku, as she had come to care about Higoku. They both went off, and Kiana and Mei assumed they died.
Meeting Bronya
To take another shortcut, Kiana and Mei decided to walk across the elevated light rail system. A city tram that could take them from the academy to the rest of the city. There, they were attacked by mecha girls created by ME Corp. Recognising the logos as something she had seen in the secret labs near the academy, Mei managed to draw the connection, and grew more concerned of a conspiracy surrounding her father's company.
Suddenly, they were attacked by a different type of mech. Project Bunny and its pilot Bronya attempted to capture Mei, and demanded surrender. Kiana and Mei resisted, and Project Bunny's automated system estimated the battle was more risky than anticipated, and enacted a baiting plan using their curiosity towards Bronya as bait.
The girls boarded a tram to move across the rail system more quickly, and discovered the mecha girls were gathering Honkai energy and using the rails to transport it. The tram arrived at some sort of hangar, and there they found Bronya again.
During the second confrontation, Mei appealed to Bronya's individuality, and the system decided to suppress Bronya's emotions more strongly, and flee the scene.
Despite the risks, Kiana agreed with Mei that they should try and save Bronya. Upon exiting the hangar, they found they were at a large office building of ME Corp. Kiana and Mei discussed the possibility that ME Corp could be involved with an organisation similar to the enigmatic Schicksal, which could be the same organisation that kidnapped Mei in the past when she was a child. They also found blueprints for the mechs and for Bronya's Project Bunny.
When Mei became dejected over her situation, and insisted her father would never commit such crimes as turning people into weapons, Kiana reassured Mei again that they would find their dads together.
They went to the rooftop, and found Bronya there. Kiana fought off the mecha girls to make sure Mei could get close, and Mei appealed again to Bronya's emotions and individuality. Sensing that the system was failing, Cocolia took control of Bronya and announced herself as 'C'.
They managed to fight off the now controlled Bronya, and Kiana started undressing her to find the remote control device. Having found it, she disabled it, allowing Bronya to be free again.
With Bronya now free and confused, Mei told her that she could make her own decisions now, and invited her to let Mei take care of her.

Trivia
- The default design en chibi eyes from Mei in Retro are gray instead of purple since, she never used her Herrscher's abilities in The Retrospect Arc after the Senba Academy incident. Her eyes, however are purple for the entire length of Reborn timeline [citation needed]
