Etymology
The name Sirin derives from Russian mythology about Sirin, a mythological creature with the head and chest of a woman and the body of a bird. She usually was portrayed wearing a crown or with a nimbus. Sirin would sing beautiful songs to saints that would foretel future blisses but, men who heard her songs would forget everything, follow her, and would eventually die.
