Xinyan (YS-MU)
Xinyan from the Genshin Impact main storyline. An avant-garde musician who wants to bring rock 'n' roll into the hearts of the people of Liyue Harbor.
Early Life
Xinyan is a Pyro Vision holder born into a poor family who develops an interest in singing and music at a young age.[2][3] As a child she doesn't show much talent in the activities traditionally associated with girls, but eventually she learns to cook, grow flowers, sew, do embroidery, chores and even woodwork.[2][4][5][6][7] Now Xinyan is a self-taught musician who composes her songs, makes stage outfits and constructs her stages by herself.[8] Her guitar is a hand-made lyre based off a rock 'n' roll instrument from Fontaine to which she added countless modifications.[9][10] She's often labelled as unladylike, but she's grown used to it.[11]
Because the stages Xinyan builds for her concerts frequently end up on fire during the performance the Millelith prohibit her to play in public.[12] Xinyan is even charged with "fire code violation", but this doesn't stop her at all.[13] After some of the Millelith become her fans they let her in on their patrol plans so that she can avoid them and play anyway. Since the guards are unable to do anything about her and no one gets hurt during her concerts in the end they start turning a blind eye on her.[12]
When the Ministry of Civil Affairs receives Xinyan's complaints about the situation Ningguang changes the regulations in force and designs some spots for performances to take place which anyone can apply to use.[14]
Xinyan has troubles making friends because of her fierce appearance, so she treasures the ones she has. She often test tastes Xiangling's culinary experiments.[15] She once invites her fan Yun Jin to her place as a guest.[2]
The Festival Cook-Off
During the first edition of the Moonchase Festival, Traveler takes part in Beidou and Xinyan have a chat about the show she's been planning to do aboard the Alcor. Xiangling has them taste a dish she cooked in preparation for the Masterful Chefs finals.[16]
Trapped in a Labyrinth
Beidou ships Xinyan to Inazuma, where the next edition of the Iridescence Tour is planned to take place. Unfortunately the festival is canceled because the organizers are unable to show up. Stuck with an expiring travel permit, Xinyan puts up a commission with the Adventurers' Guild to look for someone to help her renew it. The Traveler accepts the task and accompanies Xinyan to meet Sara. It turns out that the Tenryou Commission is busy dealing with the monsters coming out of the recently appeared Mystic Onmyou Chamber. In exchange for Xinyan and the Traveler's help Sara takes care of the travel permit herself.[17]
Xinyan, Traveler and Paimon go to Araumi and back up the samurai who are fighting the monsters created by the domain. The three meet Shiki Taishou and Tartaglia and work together with them to make the shikigami regain his memories and the full control of the Mystic Onmyou Chamber.[17]
Xinyan decides to pay Shiki Taishou visits regularly because he can really appreciate her music.[17]
The Second Lantern Rite
During the Lantern Rite that takes place after the defeat of Beisht Beidou wants to hold a feast aboard the Alcor and invites Xinyan to play some songs. The idea is set aside when one of Ningguang's secretaries shows up to ask the captain of the Crux to salvage items from the original Jade Chamber out of the sea around Guyun Stone Forest. Xinyan and the Traveler offer their help and the three end up fighting a bunch of Treasure Hoarders who got their hands on some of the valuables.[18]
Xinyan finally has a party with Beidou and her crew. After the other members leave to celebrate the festival with their families Beidou invites Xinyan to eat something with her.[18]
Xinyan and Yun Jin watch the fireworks show together on the Jade Chamber.[18]
A Trip to the Golden Apple Archipelago
Beidou puts Xinyan in charge of the music at the Drink-Till-You-Sink Champion-Ship, where she meets Kazuha. The two arrange to go on a trip to Mondstadt together to find some new inspiration for her songwriting. They drink at Angel's Share with Venti, Paimon and the Traveler, who invites them to come with them to the Golden Apple Archipelago. After spending the night at the tavern Xinyan and Kazuha meet Fischl, Oz and Mona the morning after.[3]
Once arrived, Xinyan sets up camp and starts looking for something to eat. She starts experiencing the effects of the Cognitive Mimicry the following day and ends up visiting all the mirages it creates. In hers the group meets Blazing Heart and Frozen Soul and learns of the difficulties and prejudices Xinyan faced during her life. She also relives the surprise visit made by Xiangling and Yun Jin for her birthday. After getting Broken Isle to work again as an instrument Xinyan plays her guitar along with it.[3]
Xinyan helps repairing the Cognitive Mimicry and later invites Fischl, Oz, Paimon and the Traveler to Liyue to visit Wanmin Restaurant and meet Yun Jin.[3]
A Lantern Rite Concert
When Dvorak goes back to Liyue he meets Xinyan in Liyue Harbor. She comes up with the idea of holding a concert during the Lantern Rite and helps making the event a reality. She forms a duet with Hu Tao to take part in the show.[19]
